Creston Valley Goes to War

Would You Be Proud?

No-Better-Corps.jpg

Creston Review article announced "no better corps ever assembled" than the 230th Forestry Battalion. The war diary for the 41st Company claimed that it may have been one of the finest units to ever leave Canada. Compare the service of the 41st Company with other Forestry Corps units (you can find some war diaries digitised at Library and Archives Canada). Do you agree with these claims? Why or why not?

The opening pages of the 41st Company CFC's war diary have a very self-congratulatory tone. Who do you think wrote it? Does the author seem impartial? What does this mean for a modern researcher?

Based on your assessment of these sources, would you be proud to have the Forestry Corps in your town? Would you be proud to be a part of it?
